Chicago Outdoor Ice Skating in 2020

Even with favorites like the Chicago ice skating ribbon at Maggie Daley Park temporarily closed, there’s still plenty of ice skating in downtown Chicago this year. If you’re staying downtown and looking for something within walking distance, ice skating in Chicago’s Millennium Park is a classic ice-skating experience that’s easy to reach. For a spacious skating area that’s easy to access from areas beyond downtown, try the McKinley Ice Rink. Either way, we think you’ll love Skydeck’s choices for outdoor ice skating in Chicago!

Millennium Park Ice Rink

Many of us love the thought of ice skating in downtown Chicago, but can’t feel confident about balancing on those blades. Fortunately, a fear of falling doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying this winter-weather favorite. Along with free ice skating, Chicago Millennium Park Ice Rink offers free skating lessons each weekend, during Chicago Public Schools winter break, and on selected holidays.

  • Admission: Free skating and ice skating lessons. Pick up your free admission bracelet at the rink! Skate rentals are available.

McKinley Ice Rink

When it comes to fun on outdoor ice, skating in Chicago might just peak at the McKinley Ice Rink on Chicago’s southwest side. Skaters of all levels have plenty of rink to explore, and you can follow up your adventure with a hot personal-sized pie (sweet or savory) from Pleasant House Bakery.

  • Admission: Free
  • Dates: President’s Day to February 17, 2021. Open skate is from 12 to 7 p.m.
  • Skate Rentals: $6

McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink

During the summer months, McCormick Tribune Ice Rink is disguised as an outdoor dining area. But come winter, it offers a picture-perfect experience of outdoor ice skating in Chicago. Skate surrounded by breathtaking views, from the Chicago skyline to downtown decked out in Christmas lights.

  • Dates: November 15, 2020 to March 2021
  • Admission: Free. Skate rentals are available.
