Planning Your Visit

Stepping out onto The Ledge of Skydeck is a quintessential Chicago experience, as much for the incredible views as for the unique experience and educational opportunities. Of course, the opportunity to get a unique photo with a view of four states from atop the second-tallest building in the western hemisphere is also compelling!

The Ledge is the standout attraction of Skydeck: it’s an observation deck with a glass floor that offers a truly unparalleled view of the city. And at 1,353 feet high, The Ledge is the highest observation deck in the United States. But there’s more to Skydeck than glass boxes: the 99th floor of Willis tower is open for private events, including weddings, birthday parties, corporate meetings, and much more. We also host events year-round, including our annual stair climb to the Skydeck and summer concerts.

Skydeck Visitor Inside Tips

The Best Time for the Best Views

For the most spectacular views, the best time to visit Skydeck Chicago is either just after opening or after sunset. If you’re planning on catching the sunset or taking in the twinkling nightscape of Chicago, you should plan on arriving 30-45 minutes before sunset. Visit SunriseSunset to view the Chicago sunset calendar.

Taking Pictures

When taking a picture toward the windows, be sure to use the “backlight” function of your camera if it’s an option. You should also turn off your flash and polarizer filter to allow your camera to capture the view behind your subject.

We also offer a professional photo team that can take your picture and have it ready for you in a custom folder before you leave.

Please note that no tripods are allowed, though you are more than welcome to bring your monopod.

Kid Friendliness

Family at Skydeck
Skydeck Chicago is child-friendly, with family bathrooms located on Lower Level 2 in the Skydeck Marketplace. The building is also equipped with ramps that make it easy to navigate with strollers.

Time Limits on The Ledge
